Battles with mobs and between players is the main activity in Lineage II.

Battle process

In Lineage II battles with mobs are real time battles. If you know the specifics of the battle process, you can safely hunt alone.

Цель1.jpg

1. Target

Mobs dwell in fields and dungeons. By clicking a mob once, you target it. In the upper left part of the screen you’ll see the target window containing the name of the mob and the info about it. By the colour of its name you can understand its level, and the additional info will let you know whether the battle is going to be hard or relatively easy. Click the selected mob once again or use an attacking skill to start the battle. There are aggressive mobs who attack your character once it’s become visible to them, and not aggressive who don’t attack first. However, such not aggressive mobs have so called sociality – they attack a character if it attacks their comrades. You cannot determine whether a mob is aggressive or social by its looks. So you need to be careful when you explore new hunting zones.

Since Gracia Plus update has been introduced, there are additional restrictions for hunting mobs lvl 78 and higher:

  • The formula used to count the damage caused to mobs level 78+ is slightly changed:
    • The amount of damage caused to mobs is reduced if your level is lower that the mob's level by 2 or more.
      • The damage is not reduced if your character’s level is the same as the mob’s or higher.
      • The damage caused by a servitor or a pet depends on the owner’s level, not on the level of a pet/servitor.
    • The damage is reduced for all attack types (weapon, skills, etc.)
    • This change doesn’t affect PvP.
  • The formula for magic resistance for mobs level 78+ is slightly changed:
    • If attacker’s level is 3 or more levels below the mob’s level, there’s a greater chance that the mob will successfully resist magic.
    • The method of counting mobs’ magic resistance is changed
      • Mobs’ chance to resist magic is now based on character’s level, not character's characteristics or equipment
    • This change doesn’t affect PvP.

2. Start of a battle

When you’ve found the mobs that match your level and characteristics, attack them, use your weapon and skills. Use Soulshots/Spiritshots to increase damage. Keep an eye on your HP and MP. When your HP level is low, use healing herbs or healing magic.

3. End of a battle

The battle is over then you kill a mob or when a mob kills you. If the mob dies, your character gets XP, SP and probably some trophies – adena, resources, items. If your character dies in a battle, it loses some XP and may receive a Shilen's Breath debuff. A dead character can be resurrected by other players or it can go to the closest township or village to get resurrected there.

4. Weapon and types of attacks

Weapon for short-range attacks Weapon for long-range attacks
Атака оружием ближнего боя.jpg
All Weapon except bows and crossbows can be used for short-range attacks. Damage in short-range attacks depends on Phys. Atk., protection in long-range attacks (physical) depends on Phys. Def. Soulshots are used to increase Phys. Atk.
Атака оружием дальнего боя.jpg
Bows and Crossbows are used for long-range attacks. Each shot from a bow consumes your character’s MP. Bows have low attack speed, make big damage and attack range is impressive. Crossbows have high attack speed, make average damage, and their attack range is the same as for bows.
Physical skills Magic skills
Атака физическим умением.jpg
Warrior classes use physical skills. Such skills make damage at a distance which is predefined for every skill. They also require using a certain type of weapon. Soulshots are used to increase Phys. Atk.
Атака магическим умением.jpg
Mage classes use magic skills. Magic skills are related to different elements (i.e. have attributes). It means that when you choose a mob to hunt, you need to take into account their magic defence and elemental protection. Each magic skill requires some time to use. If your character is being damaged while making a spell, the process of casting may fail. To increase magic attack (and spellcasting at the same time) SpiritShots and Blessed Spiritshots are used.

Hunting mobs

When you hunt mobs, your character gets XP, SP to learn skills, adena, etc.

Получение уровня.jpg

XP

XP is required to increase your character’s level. When it reaches 100%, your character gets a level-up. When it gets a certain level, your character can learn new skills.

SP

SP means the points required to learn skills. The higher your character’s level is, the more SP it needs to learn skills. You need to choose skills thoughtfully, otherwise you may lack SP for a skill.

Adena

Adena is the currency used in the world of Lineage II. One of the ways to get it is hunting mobs. Note that adena falls on the ground and you need to pick it up when a mob is killed. If you don’t pick it up in 10 minutes, it’ll disappear (like all drop from a mob).

Items

By killing mobs you can receive various items. Each mob has their own set of items. A chance to get armor or weapon is very low, in most cases you’ll get resources or herbs.

Death from a mob

Death is Lineage II is quite an ordinary thing. If your character dies during hunting, it loses XP. However, it never loses its level. If a PK character (player killer) dies, they can lose the equipped items and the items from their inventory if their PK counter is 4 or above.

  1. If your character dies, you'll see the resurrection menu. If you choose to go back to the town, the XP you've lost won't be restored. If your character belongs to a hall owning property, you'll have an option to resurrect in the fortress / castle / clanhall. Such property reduces the amount of XP lost at resurrection.
  2. You party or just any other player can also resurrect your character (you can ask for help in the game chat). There are different ways of resurrection. For example, if a character is resurrected with a Blessed Scroll of Resurrection, 100% of XP will be restored. If a healer uses their skills to resurrect a character, 20%-90% of XP is restored (depending on the healer's level, skills, race and equipment).

Character’s status

During a battle both mobs and characters can use different debuffs causing certain character’s status. For the most part, such effects are temporary, but they can be fatal for your character or even a group of characters.

Name Description How to remove a debuff
Sleep The target falls asleep and cannot move or attack. Use a Waking Scroll on a sleeping target. The status is cancelled if any damage is received.
Hold The target cannot move, but it can use long-range and magic attacks. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Poison The target periodically receives damage. The poisoned character may use an antidote or a healer may use a "Cure Poison" skill, etc.
Bleed The target periodically receives damage. The target can use a Bandage or a "Life Aid Banding" skill.
Stun The target is stunned and cannot move or attack. The stun may be cancelled if damage is received. The protecting buffs by Evas Saint or Shillien Saint can increase protection from stuns.
Paralysis The target is paralyzed and cannot move or attack. Bishops and Shillien Saints can heal paralysis.
Silence The target cannot use physical and magic skills. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Slow The target’s running speed is reduced. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Decrease Atk. Spd. The target’s attack speed is reduced. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Leg Strike The target is knocked over and cannot move or attack. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Binding Lifts and holds the target into the air. There’s no way to cancel this status quickly.
Восклицательный знак.png Did you know that...
Seraphim the Unicorn, Elemental Master's servitor, can cancel such debuffs as silence, root, stun, silence and paralysis from the party members.

Attacking position

Choosing an attacking position

Атака со спины.jpg

Some classes may use the advantages of positional attacks, i.e. attacks from behind or side attacks. Such attacks allow them to cause more damage. They can also use the advantages of Soul Crystals. It’s very useful to have a tank in the group for this purpose. A tank may draw mob’s aggression upon itself, while the rest of the group attacks from sides or from behind.

Tank’s position

Позиция танка.jpg

Tanks always stand face to face with a mob, so, to increase their defense, tanks use shields. When Shield Defense works, tank’s physical defense characteristics is increased by the physical defense characteristics of a shield. Basic shield defense rate is 20%, however, if a mob is within 30 degrees before the character, shield defense rate is increased. Shields are particularly useful when a character is attacked by several mobs at once, it increases the chances for the character and for the party to survive.
